This little module allows all of our development boards with a UEXT connector to communicate at a short distance with an infra red (IR) link. There is a sensitive IR receiver on it.
MOD-IRDA is an infrared remote-control module, not an IrDA-standard data transceiver. It is intended for IR remote/control applications using a modulated carrier around 36 kHz, and will not communicate with standard IrDA ports used for serial data links.
