[15:49:00] <silver_hook> How does Olimex’ LCD compare to Oscar? https://www.oscaradapter.co.uk
[16:41:04] <adj_> silver_hook: Olimex's LCD is a display with electronics and connector to connect o olimex boards, while Oscar is a lvds to displayport adapter, so you can connect an lvds display to a computer
[16:41:15] <adj_> if I understand correctly
[16:41:39] <silver_hook> adj_: Both OSHW (well, the controllers, of course)?
[16:44:29] <adj_> yes, I think so, but different use case
[16:45:12] <silver_hook> OK, makes sense :)
[16:46:05] <adj_> oscar seems to use embedded displayport display, so probably it's a edp to dp adapter
[16:46:07] <silver_hook> Any ideas of selling OLinuXinos with FreedomBox image? :)
[16:49:50] <adj_> is freedombox based on debian?
[16:51:02] <adj_> silver_hook, web says that can be installed on a debian system, so you should be able to install it a olinuxino debian image
[16:53:15] <adj_> in fact freedombox recommends olinuxino-lime2 hardware
[16:54:01] <adj_> I don't know why are you so interested in olimex selling sdcards with it when you can download the lime2 image from freedombox web
[17:19:51] <silver_hook> adj_: Sorry, had to go AFK for a short while.
[17:20:24] <silver_hook> Yup, Freedombox is Debian-based. I know, they also offer an (official) image for the Lime 2.
[17:21:05] <silver_hook> I’m just interested in how to make both the two “sell” better :)
[17:21:30] <silver_hook> …just because I think they’re both cool and could benefit from eachother.
[17:23:15] <lukas2511> i tried that freedombox stuff and didn't like it, ranted an hour or so on their irc channel, was a fun day
[17:24:27] <silver_hook> lukas2511: Yea? When was that?
[17:24:50] <silver_hook> I haven’t tried it yet, but I need something to replace my Gentoo on DreamPlug as a server.
[17:24:58] <lukas2511> was quite a while ago
[17:25:14] <silver_hook> lukas2511: It seems they’ve done quite a bit in the past few months.
[17:25:19] <silver_hook> What was crap about it?
[17:27:08] <lukas2511> for one the initial experience was really bad, tried their virtualbox image and after quite some time of googling and reading docs i wasn't able to find a root password or anything. they said manual was actually pretty bad at that time, no idea how it is now.
[17:27:34] <lukas2511> i suggested that they show on login console how to configure it, i think they implemented that
[17:28:13] <silver_hook> Hmmm, now they’re supposed to have a webgui for most of the stuff.
[17:28:38] <lukas2511> then i tried to install some stuff, and it was horribly broken, wasn't able to install anything and by clicking a button i shouldn't have pressed i think i kinda messed up some things
[17:29:00] <silver_hook> Ah, OK, thanks for the feedback.
[17:29:02] <lukas2511> yea the webgui was another problem, i wasn't able to find the url to that one at first, and on the main page there only was some kind of jabber client
[17:29:21] <silver_hook> I’ll try it and see. The manual’s much better, but far from great.
[17:29:44] <lukas2511> and well there where a lot of other small things
[17:30:06] <lukas2511> some things i didn't even bother ranting about back then, because i thought they'd fix those things anyway
[17:30:10] <silver_hook> Anyway, even if I end up with ArkOS or YunoHost or again “roll-your-own, but this time Debian”, I’ll most likely go for a Lime 2.
[17:30:26] <lukas2511> yea the lime2 is a great board
[17:30:34] <silver_hook> Looks like it, yea :)
[17:30:53] <lukas2511> but i'm still hoping for a version with more memory, and maybe a lime3 with a quad- or octacore :)
[17:31:01] <silver_hook> And I recently learned about putting two disks in RAID by having one via SATA and the other via USB. That might save my arse :)
[17:31:31] <silver_hook> That’d be cool, but the one that I see on the blog seems to have more oomph, but lacks an ethernet.
[17:32:02] <silver_hook> https://olimex.wordpress.com/2015/11/06/a20-olinuxino-micro-project-how-to-set-up-a-raid-1-filesystem/#comment-20301
[17:32:58] <silver_hook> I currently run a weird solution where I have two HDDs in a disk tower connected via a single eSATA cable to the DreamPlug as JBOD and then run a LVM (RAID 1) mirror on them.
[17:34:19] <silver_hook> And the fact that I don’t need to look for a board with SATA port multiplier again, really help in deciding to get a new board :)
[22:14:23] <silver_hook> Anyone tried YUNOhost before?
