IRC #olimex 2015-04-11

[01:19:30] <lanodan> I there, what is needed to load linux on A20-OLinuXino-LIME2-4G ? (I think of using u-boot or equivalent)
[11:24:17] <Turingi> hi, the only olimex boards that can do gigabit ethernet are the Lime2 line?
[11:34:42] <adj_> Turingi, afaik yes
[11:35:11] <adj_> and max speed is about 450Mbits/s
[11:36:33] <adj_> A20 SOM + A20-SOM-EVB also supports Gigabit Ethernet
[11:36:48] <adj_> again with the same limitation speed
[11:40:51] <Turingi> the sata sits on its own bus, rigt?
[11:40:54] <Turingi> adj_
[11:41:37] <Turingi> adj_: would hooking up a SSD to it also translate into greater throughput?
[11:41:49] <adj_> what do you mean, that sata isn't usb to sata?
[11:42:44] <adj_> Allwinner A20 has also some limitations on the sata
[11:43:10] <adj_> look at the irc archive and olimex blog to see some people reporting sata speed
[11:44:03] <adj_> if i remember correctly max speed is about 80MB/s reading and 40MB/s writing
[11:45:24] <adj_> at least one user reported very low speeds ~8MB/s if using sata at the same time than GEthernet
[11:45:31] <adj_> Turingi
[11:45:54] <adj_> so no, you will not get great speed using a fast ssd
[11:45:58] <adj_> sorry
[11:57:38] <Turingi> adj_: thanks, was looking at setting it up as some kind of nas
[12:04:05] <adj_> Turingi, you asked two months ago the same thing on irc, next time stay connected or watch the irc logs
