IRC #olimex 2023-02-01

[04:06:02] <kreyren> hmm i could probably use my special OSINT abilities and figure that out
[04:07:21] <kreyren> EvilOlaf?
[04:08:41] <kreyren> is the guy who did the armbian thing before
[04:08:58] <kreyren> and Jonas Smedegaard dr@jones.dk is the guy doing the debian port on redpill https://box.redpill.dk/
[04:10:02] <kreyren> the forum post https://www.olimex.com/forum/index.php?topic=6092.0 has lambda, dlegor/diego and deesix
[04:10:50] <kreyren> diego71, heyo~ gib intel
[04:11:45] <kreyren> context https://github.com/armbian/build/pull/4756
[04:11:55] <kreyren> i have noooo idea how to make the audio work and it's driving me insane
[04:25:37] <bill-auger> it maybe is not enabled in the kernel?
[05:11:28] <kreyren> bill-auger, what do i enable in the kernel then!
[05:11:36] <kreyren> it's direct connection to the A64
[05:14:44] <kreyren> unless the schematics lied to me
[05:58:31] <bill-auger> i dunno but you should start with the image that olimex publishes - at least that one was intended for the board (it is most likely to work, or be the least broken) - youre only complicating your task, by starting with an image that was not intended for the board
[06:00:29] <bill-auger> the olimex image could have a DT overlay for example, or a customized kernel
[06:01:55] <bill-auger> ie: the direct answer to the question would be to compare the kernel configs, if the olimex image works as expected
[06:22:15] <kreyren> bill-auger, that image is ubuntu xenial using linux 3.16 that is basically unusable as super majority of packages are broken in some way
[06:22:43] <kreyren> i am comparing it to the mps's config atm as that seems to be more usable
[06:33:51] <bill-auger> i was not suggesting that you use it - i was suggesting that you try it - if the audio device works, compare the kernel config and .dts files - if the audio device does not work, forget it
[06:35:37] <bill-auger> that was ignoring the fact that your statement made no sense - if it worked on the day it was published, then it still works today, exactly the same
[06:36:09] <bill-auger> ie: if it has broken packages today, then they must have always been broken - i dont beleive that
[06:42:08] <bill-auger> most likely the audio works and you could learn _something_ from it
[07:37:06] <kreyren> bill-auger, i highly doubt it worked at the day it was published or ubuntu did the ubuntu thing and shit in a patch and then backported it
[07:37:25] <kreyren> which is very on brand for ubuntu and should be their motto
[07:37:36] <kreyren> "ubuntu, we shit in patches(TM)"
[13:43:35] <diego71> with the last debian, I had to use alsamixer to enable audio
[13:44:24] <diego71> I played with random settings until audio worked
[13:45:17] <diego71> (debian on a teres I)
[17:45:41] <kreyren> :o
[18:55:18] <kreyren> Good news everyone! i turned my notebook into that thing dr. frink from the simpsons is playing on
[18:55:31] <kreyren> i put my hand closer to the microphone and it starts wheezing
[18:55:34] <kreyren> progress!
[18:55:58] <kreyren> pretty sure pipewire is just a troll software used to annoy people at this point
[18:56:19] <kreyren> also i have no idea how to make it work to pipe the sound card to the speaker and pipewire ppl are very confused
[18:56:20] <kreyren> xD
[19:09:45] <clarity> kreyren: speaking of sus
[19:10:10] <clarity> I finally decided to check out this one fishy invite to a linux matrix room I got a while ago
[19:10:15] <clarity> :)
[19:10:51] <kreyren> good boy! :p
[19:30:00] <kreyren> HEUREKAAA
