IRC #olimex 2021-01-23

[01:01:41] <jo0nas> do each device need a dedicated ethernet connection, or would it be fine with an ethernet hub or switch?
[18:13:08] <nedko> plaes: you can try to attach multiple ethernet devices over usb
[19:23:31] <jo0nas> right, the other variability is that if you don't need full ethernet speed then use USB dongles
[21:22:54] <cardpuncher> Hi there, I just ordered a Freedombox, but it appears Paypal is not allowed in my country (Turkey). I need to find another means of payment that doesn't break the bank with high fees as there will be import taxes too. Is this the right place to bother people with such problems, or is this channel for technical stuff only?
[22:04:13] <jo0nas> cardpuncher: it cannot hurt to try here (the owner of Olimex pops by during work hous as well) but you could also try send an email
[22:07:19] <cardpuncher> jo0nas, thank you. I'll go to bed soon and see if there's a reply tomorrow. Hope they read the logs :)
[22:21:48] <jo0nas> tomorrow is Sunday - you should expect to wait until Monday for a response from the company
[22:22:39] <jo0nas> ...and really, I guess you will get a response more reliably if sending them an email
[22:24:30] <jo0nas> cardpuncher: one option you might check is to buy a LIME2 board from a distributor selling in your country - the FreedomBox really is a LIME2 w/ box and a logo printed on it
[22:30:53] <cardpuncher> I was fearing my e-mail would end up in the spam folder. As for buying the LIME2 board, I did a search on Google and apparently there are no vendors (except mouser which ships with the US power adapter if I understood correctly)
[22:34:48] <cardpuncher> Anyway, thank you for your advice jo0nas, I'll drop an e-mail and see the result. I chose a version with the 320 gb hard disk drive, and it would be nice for the newbie that I am if things were simple.
[22:41:43] <jo0nas> cardpuncher: good luck with your FreedomBox - and consider joining the #freedombox channel on OFTC.net :-)
[22:43:50] <jo0nas> ACTION would expect mouser to also offer EU power supply, but agree that safest (and nicest) option is to buy directly from Olimex
[22:56:24] <cardpuncher> I'm already on that channel :) (I had contributed some Turkish & French translations back in the day, and now the time has come to use a real box)
