IRC #olimex 2019-02-14

[21:32:55] <Antitrack> aaaaaaaaaah heeeeelp. I need to use a touch display, resolution 1023x600 and I need to boot from emmc. I use a olimex a20 lime2. which pcb revisions require which software revisions so I can properly boot from emmc?
[21:35:39] <Antitrack> currently I have rev.k, but we have older versions too at the company. so we need to know which linux images work with emmc on which olimex a20 lime2 board revisions
[21:58:36] <jo0nas> Antitrack: all hardware revisions work, I believe - the better question to ask is which u-boot and kernel works with which hardware revisions
[21:59:35] <jo0nas> ...and beware that u-boot and kernel vary not only in versions, but also in which custom patches has been applied
[22:00:23] <jo0nas> ...or more commonly expressed, which source - mainline or something else
[22:01:20] <jo0nas> Olimex offers official source - which means officially the source Olimex has patched
[22:02:24] <jo0nas> Debian is another common "source" - which means Mainline U-boot and mainline Linux, each with fairly minimal patchset applied
[22:03:22] <jo0nas> Armbian is another common "source" - which means either Mainline or some Allwinner-fork with various patches applied, depending on which image you choose
[22:03:54] <jo0nas> I believe that nowadays Olimex "official source" is based on Armbian
[23:05:31] <Antitrack> argl
[23:06:31] <Antitrack> and how do I know if the latest recommended Armbian_5.72.1_Olinuxino-a20_Ubuntu_bionic_next_4.19.17_desktop.7z works with the older olimex pcb's or not, speaking about the emmc booting ?
