MPLAB ICD USB PROBLEM

Hi
I've never had a problem programing pics with this before until I tried to program a 16C57C.Firstly i get a config memory has not been updated message.Then if I click continue I get a serial time out and mplab 8.92 crashes.
Hope someone can help

If you look in the readme for that programmer (usually C:\Program Files (x86)\Microchip\MPLAB IDE\Readmes) you should be able to find out if the programmer you have can program that chip - I think not.
You may need something like a PicStart+.  Or maybe try a 16F series?

I spoke to soon!
After reading the device support list pic start plus should be able to program the 16c57c but I'm still having the same problem.Is there a 16f chip I can use instead?
