I'm starting this topic to discuss about possibilities for building an actual Debian image with hardware accelerated graphics. AFAIK there are only 2 images available with hardware acceleration:

1. LibreELEC/KODI: https://ftp.olimex.com/Allwinner_Images/A20-OLinuXino/4.LibreELEC_KODI_images/A20-OLinuXino-MICRO/

2. Good old Sunxi: https://ftp.olimex.com/Allwinner_Images/A20-OLinuXino-MICRO/Debian/sd/A20_OLinuxino_Micro_debian_Jessie_34_103_2G_eMMC_release_18.zip

LibreELEC is almost perfect, plays full HD content smoothly and has no problems with HDMI output. However, it is no Debian and I didn't succeed so far in running other software (like MPV) on that platform.

Sunxi is ancient Jessie and a big step back into medieval. HDMI output also has major problems with external hardware, e.g. DVI adaptors.

My aim is to discuss a solution for building an actual Debian image with hardware accelerated graphics. Olimage would be perfect, if someone could find a way to implement hardware acceleration, preferably the driver from the LibreElec image.

Did somebody here already build something like this?
Or knows how the LibreElec image was built and if there is a way to implement that kernel into an actual Debian image?

Any ideas are welcome.
