several PCB versions of the same processor

I think its a very good idea to offer several versions of the same processor (MAXI-MICRO...) !

but I do not quite understand how the features are chosen. it seems to me we mainly need two options:
• for development:
- all connectors available
- SD card
- a practical size with spots for screws or even solder experiments

• for production:
- no connectors but headers or solder rows (like iMX233 micro)
- Flash instead of SD card
- as small and cheap as possible
