I have recompiled the kernel with all the other wifi models enabled. i can post a copy of my ".config" if of help? I had it working with this old G dongle but it was unreliable. I remember this dongle working better but lately it seams to not be reliable anymore.

I have a nice new dongle. the based on Atheros AR9271

I see linux-sunix (based on old linux 3.4) has ath9k_htc but it doesn't seam to work. So I have compiled backports but again no success :(

I also have a duel band dongle which I would like to use. it uses the same/similar chips.

help please, I don't know what to do.

What does the kernel says when you plug the dongle in? Try (as root) dmesg -c first (to clear kernel message buffer), plug the dongle in, wait for a while and then post the resulting messages from dmesg.

can't remember the error right now, I'll find out later.
also I've found out that it seams my wifi dongle has stop working :( so I'll try another one that is similar but needs a even newer driver
