Alternate power and reset connection via GPIO-1

My client doesn't like the style of power connecter, and would also need to rewire the reset button to have a remote reset switch.  The GPIO-1 connector includes 5V, ground, and RESET_N pins.  This would satisfy both requirements if they can be used to supply power and reset in one easy to use connector.

How ever, I'm not sure if bypassing the AXP209 power management chip in that way is a sane idea.  What ever English docs I can find on that chip are not helpful.

So, does any one know if we can supply a clean 5 volts via GPIO-1 to power it, and have a switch to ground on it's RESET_N pin to reset the board, without releasing the magic blue smoke, or otherwise stressing the board in ways it was not meant to be stressed?
