[13:12:48] <daze> :)
[13:15:06] <daze> I'm wiring up my bicycle to have brake lights, cadence and such. I'm considering grounding the frame (i.e. using the frame as one of the wires). Is that smart? The voltage is ~3V, the current does not exceed 800mA, I suppose. Noob here, be gentle :D
[13:15:06] <daze> I read on the net that old motorcycles had the same principle (grounded frames)
[13:28:17] <lukas2511> dunno, if you have to run wires anyway i'd suggest running all the wires you need, i guess it wouldn't be much more work and would be a cleaner setup at the end
[13:33:19] <lukas2511> http://www.gabma.us/elec/proper_grounding.pdf this says that it's a bad idea to use a frame as electrical connection
[13:33:25] <lukas2511> ^ daze
[13:34:27] <daze> well, I'd run the positive through the gear cable which does not contact the frame :)
[13:34:59] <daze> otherwise I'd have to run wires, but I'm trying to avoid that :/
[13:36:22] <daze> I read the same pdf and it gave me hope that if people in the 60s were ok with grounding frames, maybe I'd be ok also :D
[13:36:42] <lukas2511> well if you read it it kinda says that people weren't okay with that
[13:36:49] <lukas2511> too much voltage drop
[13:37:52] <lukas2511> dim lights, depending on connection even flickering, doesn't sound that great
[13:40:17] <daze> flickering could be fixed with some caps, I suppose. I will not be running any bright lights, just a simple led, really. And the cadence sensor should be a simple contact
[13:42:09] <daze> I guess I should get a multimeter and test the voltage drop and things
[13:45:40] <daze> another issue is galvanic corrosion bet ween Al and Cu, but I'm not sure if that's even a possible issue with such low currents
[17:58:49] <superguest> hey
[17:58:58] <superguest> i bought this maple r3 / olimexino-st32
[17:59:04] <superguest> is this a scam product?
[17:59:42] <superguest> online there are complains about not beein able to upload and i have the same problem
[17:59:50] <superguest> there is no reall solution
[18:00:09] <superguest> as far as i have seen i have tried alot of the solutions
[18:00:30] <superguest> is there a REAL sollution?
[18:03:36] <superguest> ok..
[18:04:00] <superguest> i am in a online help desk right now they say can trade the product for something els
[18:04:05] <superguest> which it would have worked out the box
[18:04:26] <superguest> is there another olimex which runs on arduino ide instead of maple or whatever the issue is?
[18:12:49] <superguest> ??
[18:12:57] <superguest> do all olimex product never work out of the box?
[18:13:13] <superguest> then i will get a second arduino
[18:19:59] <superguest> i need a solution
[18:20:03] <superguest> for this problem
[18:20:12] <superguest> Couldn't find the DFU device: [1EAF:0003]
[18:20:34] <superguest> your forums only say press this reset button and magically everything will fall into place
[18:20:37] <superguest> i have tried this for hours now
[18:21:07] <superguest> there are 2 modes, yes if i trust 2 different led statuses
[18:21:11] <superguest> i tried programming in both
[18:21:30] <superguest> there is also no com port to refer to since the driver wont install
[18:27:23] <superguest> >?????????/
[18:37:11] <superguest> guyz
[18:37:20] <superguest> how to get this this olimexino to work
[18:38:17] <superguest> GOD @_____@
[18:42:26] <superguest> tell me
[18:42:31] <superguest> how to i get this olimexino to work??
[18:43:58] <superguest> this scam product
[18:44:03] <superguest> scam irc ;'(
[18:45:30] <lukas2511> have you tried praising it while running backwards around a hellfire singing the free software song?
[18:45:35] <lukas2511> sometimes that works
[18:48:38] <superguest> ;'(
[18:48:45] <superguest> what have other people done
[18:48:49] <superguest> i know i am not the only one
[18:49:07] <superguest> gonna get a beagle bone black
[18:49:23] <lukas2511> i know that you are not giving enough information so that anybody would even be able to help you
[18:49:24] <superguest> this olimex is going out the window
[18:49:33] <superguest> what?
[18:49:40] <superguest> i have an olimexino-stm32
[18:49:56] <superguest> Couldn't find the DFU device: [1EAF:0003]
[18:50:19] <lukas2511> have you tried downloading the ide?
[18:50:37] <superguest> maple ide
[18:50:39] <superguest> i am using
[18:50:41] <superguest> it doesnt work
[18:50:48] <superguest> need to install the dfu driver
[18:50:50] <superguest> but windows wont let me
[18:51:02] <superguest> tried some guy say on forum instal libusb
[18:51:12] <superguest> do some magic with that and spawn an .int file or so
[18:51:17] <superguest> that also doesnt work
[18:53:01] <lukas2511> no experience with windows, sorry. but not sure if it is really a driver issue. i can tell you that the bootloader sometimes is a bit broken, resetting the board at the right moment (usually at the same time as clicking the "Upload" button in ide) usually works in those moments, maybe that is your problem
[18:59:38] <superguest> yes
[18:59:44] <superguest> what kind of solution is that
[18:59:49] <superguest> press magic button everything will be ok
[19:00:01] <superguest> make sure to press it on the right time tho !
[19:00:03] <superguest> or it wont do anything
[19:00:30] <superguest> that uploading is only possible after i can select the com port, wich is after i have the driver dfu installed
[19:01:03] <lukas2511> com != dfu
[19:02:23] <superguest> but i cannot select the serial list
[19:02:31] <superguest> because the maple r3 is not accept by windows
[19:02:45] <superguest> so com == driver == missing driver for either serial or dfu
[19:03:14] <superguest> if i cannot select the correct com port, trying to upload will never succeed
[19:06:11] <superguest> so what do i do?
[19:06:16] <superguest> i did get that dtr pulse report
[19:06:30] <superguest> when i hit ur magic button on the right time once
[19:08:50] <superguest> scam product
[19:09:40] <superguest> never trust chineese products and never turst olimex ;'(
[19:09:45] <lukas2511> lol
[19:10:51] <lukas2511> i mean, i guess you didn't even try reading anything about this board, if you would have you would know how the bootloader works, what to do if it doesn't work as intended, and you wouldn't scam-rage-throw your board out of the window or something
[19:12:29] <superguest> where which documents
[19:12:33] <superguest> there is only this usermanual
[19:13:32] <superguest> i dont want that other ide
[19:13:34] <superguest> i want maple ide
[19:13:39] <lukas2511> i mean there even is a linked article about how you actually seem to have to disable driver signing voodoo on windows
[19:14:05] <lukas2511> i mean, that is kinda bad
[19:14:49] <superguest> could u link me
[19:14:58] <superguest> i dont even know what driver singing is
[19:15:03] <superguest> i really dont want tto know
[19:15:10] <superguest> if it was an arduino i would have been done already
[19:15:27] <lukas2511> yea well then send this stm32 board back and buy an arduino i guess
[19:15:36] <superguest> give me this link ;'(
[19:15:44] <superguest> i have to pay for the return cost if i send it back ;'(
[19:16:09] <lukas2511> https://www.olimex.com/Products/Duino/STM32/OLIMEXINO-STM32/ bottom of the page "get started with windows 7", will as far as i know be nearly the same for 7+
[19:16:41] <superguest> ok i didnt look that down o.O
[19:16:46] <superguest> thank u
[19:16:48] <superguest> i gtg now
[19:17:06] <superguest> ill come hunt u down tomorrow if it doesnt work by then <(^_^<)
[19:17:22] <superguest> bb
[19:17:24] <superguest> ty
[19:17:24] <lukas2511> yea hunt olimex or leaflabs down, not me
[19:17:31] <superguest> ;x
