A10 schematics, audio support
« on: September 23, 2012, 09:22:47 PM »
Are you leaving room for the wifi module on the A10 board?

It would be nice to move the USB0-en line off from I2S-D01 out if
possible. For my specific application I can live with it there, but if
people want to hook up 5.1 or 7.1 audio amp chips it is going to be a
problem. At least move it over to I2S-DO3 so that it is not in the
middle of the I2S block.

An example chip that needs all four I2S outputs is the TI TAS5508.
http://www.ti.com/product/tas5508c Might be fun for Olimex to make a
shield board around that chip. There are very few digital amp boards
available to hobbyists (not sure there are any available).  This type
of chip is normally found in home theater in a box setups found in
most TV stores. BOM for the shield board would be in the $20 range.
Previously it has been hard to work with these chips since x86 boxes
don't expose I2S.

Example software for use on a board like this is DRC -
http://drc-fir.sourceforge.net/   DRC needs the high FPU power of a
CPU like the A10.

To keep things simple use a 24V laptop power supply ($15-20) for the amp.

I think it is very wise to bring a I2S to the outside. So we can connect any I2S codec to the A10. In our case we will use them as ADC's of the codec for signal processing.

Re: A10 schematics, audio support I2S !!!

I agree I2S would be fantastic to come out.
why?
This board would make a great SDR (software defined radio) as it has heaps of processing grunt.

in any case, I would like to see audio if available to always be left and right channel, not just mono
I see the A13 chip only has MONO input . No good for I+Q input.

Usually I2S has minimum signals of LRCLK/BITCLK/DATAIN/DATAOUT
