Should Touch Screen work out of the box with Android?

Hello,

I have a lime2 connected with LCD7 TS (https://www.olimex.com/Products/OLinuXino/LCD/LCD-OLinuXino-7/open-source-hardware) and metal frame. Previously it was the case that Android image was working with TS. I have recently flashed image from https://www.olimex.com/wiki/images/0/0a/A20_Lime_android_422_SD_LCD_800x480_HDMI_release_1.torrent and TS is not responding. Is it broken? By now I have tried verifying cable connections and looks like everything was in place and visual inspection doesn't show any sign of breakage. How can I test further?

Many thanks for any feedback

Antonio

Well, it seems like you downloaded wrong image. The images for LIME and LIME2 are different. Try with the latest and recommended release #2 for LIME2 (suitable for SD card): https://www.olimex.com/wiki/images/f/f1/A20_Lime2_Android_4.22_SD_card_LCD_800x480_HDMI_8GB_release_2.torrent

Thanks for your feedback and sorry, I think I have posted the wrong android URL! Anyway I have downloaded and reflashed again using the URL you have provided: Android boots and works if I use an external mouse and keyboard, but touchscreen is not responding...

What can I try next?

Thanks again

This is probably an issue with the small ribbon cable that connects the touchscreen to the board at the back of the LCD. If you are lucky - it would be only misaligned. However, these ribbon cables are fragile and often get bent. In certain cases it is possible that the small cable got badly damaged by the edge of the LCD.

Try removing the small ribbon cable that connects the LCD and the touchscreen (it is connected to the board at the back of the LCD). It has a small plastic lock that needs to be disengaged in order to remove it. Then align it properly and connect it again. Make sure that there are no sharp corners and bending over the length of the cable. Engage the plastic lock again.

If the problem persists, drop an e-mail at support@olimex.com - make sure to insert a link to this forum thread in order to save time.

Unfortunately, after trying reconnecting the ribbon cable situation didn't improve. I have dropped an email to support service.

Thanks for your help

Just an update on this old thread: turns out the touchpanel was fine, issue was on the board.

I have used a multimeter to check that the circuit was uninterrupted from the ribbon to all the pins on the board. I have also verified that when one would touch the panel, voltage was changing accordingly on the pins (to find the right pins just check the pinout in the document available on github https://github.com/OLIMEX/OLINUXINO/blob/master/DOCUMENTS/LCD-OLinuXino/OLinuXino-LCD-Selection-Guide.pdf).

For another project I have bought another board (T2 this time). With that, touchpanel on android was working right away.

Still not sure what exactly is not working on the old one... touchpanel aside, everything would seem fine (e.g. I have run the latest official linux image just a few days ago, GUI and all on the LCD)... but anyway.
