HI

I want to reload the original firmware that works with the libusb-win32 drivers and with AVRDUDE. So far have failed to find it on the Olimex website. I have also tried searching the web with no luck

Please can you give me a link for it, or is there a way to get the firmware on the website to work with AVRDUDE?

You may need an earlier avrdude.

Possibly you may need different args to it than in the past.

Hello,

This is very well explained in the user's manual both for Windows and Linux users:

https://www.olimex.com/Products/AVR/Programmers/AVR-ISP-MK2/resources/AVR-ISP-MK2.pdf

All files are available in this archive: https://www.olimex.com/Products/AVR/Programmers/AVR-ISP-MK2/resources/AVR-ISP-MK2-Firmware-WindowsDrivers.zip

I don't recommend you to use older versions of the firmware for Windows 10. The latest firmware and latest drivers work fine under Windows 10 both with avrdude and Atmel Studio. And they use libusb drivers. If you use older version of the firmware you would probably face driver installation problems under Windows 10.

Hi

thanks for the advice. I have tried both the firmware for Atmel Studio AVR456-studio-AVRISP-MKII.hex: this gives me an error message

avrdude: stk500v2_command failed
avrdude: stk500v2_program_enabled(): bad AVRISPmkII connection status: Unknown status 0x00

and  AVRDUDE libUSB-AVRISP-MKII.hex, this gives me a repeated error message.

avrdude: stk500v2_recv_mk2: error in USB receive

I now have a new Olimex AVRISP Mk2 which is working fine, so I think this first one is a faulty unit

I'd recommend testing with a different versions of avrdude (there was some incompatibility between lufa design and some versions of avrdude). Please, test with this version: http://download.savannah.gnu.org/releases/avrdude/avrdude-6.2-mingw32.zip and also this older one: http://download.savannah.gnu.org/releases/avrdude/avrdude-5.11-Patch7610-win32.zip

If the problem persists and if you purchased the unit from us contact us over the support e-mail (support@olimex.com) else contact the re-seller for warranty.
