Hello everybody,

I want to buy approx 500 pieces of this cable "OLIMEX USB-Serial-Cable-F".

LINK : https://www.olimex.com/Products/Components/Cables/USB-Serial-Cable/USB-Serial-Cable-F/

But nowhere is mentioned what kind of PROLIFIC chip is inside!

Please help me somebody to identity what kind of chip is used in this kable?

I want to this chip ( PL-2303HX (Rev D) or HXD ) ,

Reason why I need this specific chip is to use this cable for RS485, and this chip is support it.

PLEASE help ASAP :) Thanks

JohnS

You could try contacting sales (or even support).

Probably faster and they can even guarantee a specific chip I expect.

Can somebody check it on Windows ?

Here is the procedure:

1. Install PL-2303 Windows Driver Installer v1.8.0 or above.
2. Plug PL2303 USB Device and go to Device Manager to check COM Port number.
3. Run PL2303CheckChipVersion tool and set COM Port number.
4. Click Check button to show PL-2303 chip version.

You can also find this tool here on prolific website:

Website:

Downlaod link:

http://www.prolific.com.tw/UserFiles/files/PL2303_Prolific_DriverInstaller_v1_12_0.zip

there you will find the tool: "checkChipVersion_v1006.exe"

This will check a Chip inside the USB, this information will help us.

The Olimex cable mentioned above is not RS485 and doesn't have any additional to drive an external RS485 transceiver, and since it is molded in plastic, there is no way to hook up this missing wire to the PL2303.

You are better using such devices already with RS485 build-in like :

This one is using CH340, but if you absolutely wish PL2303, there are some too, but if it is clone chip, it probably won't work on Windows, but well under Linux.
