Beaglebone black and Olimex 100 v3 JATG emulator

Hello guys,

I'm try to interface a beaglebone black rev A5C to the emulator produced by olimex, XDS 100v3.

Due to the fact that the BBB feature a CTI 20 pins connector I'm using an adaptor that does not play any role on the electrical level.

I'm using CCS 5.3 on win XP but at the moment even if I use the correct GEL file and all the configuration parameters provided by Olimex for what concerns the emulator I get the following once I try to perform the connection test to the target:

This error is generated by TI's USCIF driver or utilities.

The value is '-182' (0xffffff4a).
The title is 'SC_ERR_CTL_CBL_BREAK_NEAR'.

The explanation is:
The controller has detected a cable break that is near-to itself.
The user must connect the cable/pod to the controller.

Any of you could suggest how to proceed in order to identfy what's wrong in this setup?

I'm not even sure the the emulator is working properly, could I have some references like voltage leves in order to figuere out where is the issue?

Hello Manuele,

TSM320-XDS100-V3 is based on the XDS100v3 design released and maintained by Texas Instruments. According to their specification, XDS100v3 design supports the debugging/programming of Cortex-A8 microcontrollers (like the one in BeagleBone Black). Unfortunately, we don't own a BeagleBone nor we can provide proper software support on the subject (mainly because we haven't been involved in any stage of the software or firmware development for XDS100v3 – we are just hardware producers on the project).

What I recommend you is to refer to the official wiki article of the XDS100 design: http://processors.wiki.ti.com/index.php/XDS100. Also: http://processors.wiki.ti.com/index.php/AM335X_StarterWare_Environment_Setup#Debugging_on_BeagleBone_board_using_CCSv5.

I highly recommend the following post: http://www.supermicros.org/1/post/2013/07/jtag-and-emulation-on-the-beaglebone-black.html.

Additionally visiting the TI forums (http://e2e.ti.com/support/arm/sitara_arm/f/791.aspx) or writing to their support regarding the CCS – XDS100v3 – BeagleBone black compatibility would probably yield good results.
