Title: display cabinet files? In which program?
Post by: oeren on September 14, 2018, 07:06:15 PM
Are these the notebook's cabinet file?

In what program can you open the file?

How do you get to view the cabinet in 3d? Thanks.

Hi there - it sounds like what you are looking for are the design files for the plastic laptop enclosure.  The stock black/white laptop enclosure is injection molded and is ordered from a third-party supplier, so unfortunately no 3D files are available for them.

However, a 3D-printed case has been created by an independent contributor.  You may use a tool such as FreeCAD to view and edit the design files.  Here is the repository: https://github.com/forksand/olimex-teres-case

Here's the associated post by Olimex: https://olimex.wordpress.com/2018/06/14/teres-i-laptop-3d-plastic-models-are-on-github/

I also work on some unpublished case designs when I have free time.  I use OpenSCAD, which basically means that the enclosure is created mathematically and may be resized/scaled based on some configuration parameters.  It's still definitely a work in progress, but if you are interested in helping out with any of this, just let me know.

Thank you.

Yes.

I opened them in freecad.

I do not know the cad programs. I do not know how to calculate materiel strengths.
Therefore I likely cannot do much.

For illustration.

I do not know if the cabinet is a registered design. If it is not
I likely cannot get the cabinet's cad files.
I want a 10 inch cabinet to be made which can accommodate the rock64 and other arm
mainboards. I have spoken to a design school which in the realm of its teaching
may want to design such a cabinet. I was looking for the olimex notebook's
cabinet cad files because I wanted to give them a basis to start from.
