Title: A64-1G4GW Boot Issues
Post by: maurya on April 21, 2018, 12:09:45 PM
Hello,
We purchased a new A64 before a week along with the SD card. We are using an external 5V 2.5 Amp power source with it. When we try to boot from SD card the boot sequence hangs randomly. It boots OK 1 in 3 times. There are no other peripherals connected to the board except UART. The situation is worst if we connect HDMI, it always hangs and have never been able to boot using HDMI.

We are running short of time as we have to complete a POC using this board in a week. However, it didnt work out of the box.

Please get back to us with the solution at the earliest.

Thanks,
Maurya

Sounds like bad power.

A lot of supplies do not actually work properly...

Hi,
Can you suggest the power supply ratings? We have a meanwell 5 volt SMPS with us.

Regards,

Maury

For the HDMI - always use the previous release of the official image - https://www.olimex.com/wiki/images/d/d5/A64-ubuntu_built_preliminary_rel_2.torrent

The board might hang if you disconnect and re-connect the power supply very fast. This is because there are big capacitors near the power jack - if you don't give them few seconds to discharge, and apply the power before they are discharged the voltage levels around the PMU would be unacceptable.

If it is neither of these problems, then produce and share the boot log so we maybe able to spot where and why it hangs or what happens.

Great! It worked with a industrial grade SMPS with 5v and 3Amp supply.
