Title: Windows does not recognize RK3188-SOM
Post by: balbahar on September 16, 2015, 10:26:13 PM
I 'm trying to flash an image to my RK3188-som module. I connected the device to my PC through its USB-OTG port. When I connect, it powers up and I can see the LEDs are flashing.. But Windows does not recognize the device. I scaned HW changes in device manager but nothing really happens..

I tried this with two different PCs, one of them is running Windows 7 and other is Windows 8. The result is the same.

What should I do?

Some other trials:

1. Attaching to a Windows XP PC, XP does not recognize either..
2. Connecting it to the PC through other USB ports of the module (powering it up with an AC/DC adaptor), still OS does not recognize it..

Actually, I should explain how I came to this point first. I was working with my RK3188-SOM module, attaching a monitor,a keyboard and a mouse to it. I was installing some debian packages. I didn't realize that the nand partition that is used as file system was full. After that I rebooted the module, but it did not boot up successfully. The boot operation hangs on the screen that has four little penguins on the top left.

Is there a way to repair the filesystem?

If not, I prepared a new nand img to flash but I couldn't achieve to make Windows detect the module.

Please somebody give me a hand!!!

Hey balbahar,

You need to download the official image suitable for the NAND memory from the wiki article of the board. The torrent is available here: https://www.olimex.com/wiki/images/5/5f/RK3188_debian_3.0.36_NAND_release1.img.torrent (https://www.olimex.com/wiki/images/5/5f/RK3188_debian_3.0.36_NAND_release1.img.torrent)

You can restore the NAND image following the specific chapter "Booting from NAND" at the wiki here: https://www.olimex.com/wiki/RK3188-SOM#Booting_from_NAND (https://www.olimex.com/wiki/RK3188-SOM#Booting_from_NAND). You would need rk-tools software.

Hello,

I've already done all those steps and my NAND image is ready. But I couldn't find a way to flash this image to NAND. Because I could not make Windows PC to detect the board.

By the way, RK3188 documentation in Olimex site ends in NAND image preparation, there is no info for flashing to NAND. I found this link http://radxa.com/Rock/flash_the_image and I stuck at the very beginning of the flash process.

Please give me a solution for making the board seen by Windows..

After all trials and googling, I found that I had to put the device into flash mode, plugging the device to the PC while pressing the recovery button..

Please update and extend your RK3188 documentation...

Alright,

Thank you for the update!

I've now included in the wiki description!

If you discover something else let me know (or just post here in the forums so other people can learn from your experience)!

Best regards,
