Title: Faulty TMS320-XDS100-V3?
Post by: BrianBrianBrian on June 15, 2015, 10:13:14 AM
Hello

If I install BOTH of the J4 and J5 jumpers on the TMS320-XDS100-V3 and ONLY the D3 LED is lit then does that mean I have a faulty TMS320-XDS100-V3?

I'm having problems using this emulator in CCSv6 on Variscite's VAR-AM33CUSTOMBOARD and I'm trying to rule out the possibility of a faulty TMS320-XDS100-V3.

Kind regards,
Brian

Hi,

Old topic but I have the same problem. Have you managed to resolve your issue?

This is not an issue with the board. The description about the LEDs and the jumpers and the behavior is wrong. There is no relation between the D4 and the state of J5. D4 is an indication for advanced (2 pin) scan format (cJTAG). J5 is "UART Enable jumper".

The description about D3 and J4 can also be improved.

Directly taken from the design guide for XDS100v3:

<<< The LED D4 will be illuminated when in an advanced (2 pin) scan format. 1149.7 TCK Frequency
The advanced mode JTAG frequency can operate up to 25 MHz.

<<< The XDS100v3 can be used as a 1149.7 converter for an existing emulator. This has been verified using the XDS560 emulator. The external emulator must be aware of the programming and operational characteristics of the XSD100v3 adapter. To enable the external header, the jumper J4 must be installed. This will also cause LED D3 to illuminate.

Note that I couldn't find exactly the function of J5 but it controls signal UART_en_n, and when it is open UART_en_n goes to 3.3V via a resistor. If J5 is closed, UART_en_n goes to GND. I'd guess that it enables or disables UART mode on channel two but this is my speculation. Can't find any proper explanation in the original design materials either, but it is clearly there (in the design files released by TI).

I've updated the user's manual.
