Title: A10 and video playing (mplayer/smplayer) 1080p
Post by: otyugh on July 05, 2014, 04:33:36 PM
Hey,
in a project, i wanted to showcase videos on 1080p screens. Unfortunately I just realized that there were several rproblems with the A10. Is it capable ?

1) after changing boot.src (because 1280*720 fps50 is hardcoded) for the resolution to 1920x1080 60fps
2) rebooting
3) playing a video in 1080 just make it super super laggy, and is unusable. X seem to have several glitches too.

Isn't A10 ready for 1080p after all ? I don't see many topics about it.

It doesn't seem to be possible, video@1080p with A10.

Olimex support tells me the contrary. I'm confused now, and have not time actually to test further. I hope someone will be able to tell more. It's a very important point to me :S

As per the link I posted above, you *can* have FullHD (1920x1080) HDMI output from the A10.
You are out of luck if you want to play video, though...

Can you please share what was that olimex support told you?

I am also interested in resolving this issue.

Sorry for the delay.

(Answering to "playing 1080p videos on A10 don't seem to work")
Quote from: supportIt shouldn't be a problem in first place. We've tested 1080p videos and
they
play and look ok. It might be a configuration issue.

We use the Full HD video from this web page for testing:
http://www.bigbuckbunny.org/index.php/download/ Scroll down the page
where different formats and resolutions are available. We usually use
the .mp4 one.

I have another idea for the displays. Please test with the Android
releases. Android should have *flawless* HDMI support. This would
confirm or deny hardware-related issue of the video output. You can test
with Android for microSD card if the boards lack NAND memory. If the
boards have NAND memory you can also try to install the Android image
for NAND. The images for the boards might be downloaded from the
respective wiki pages.

Note that the images for A10 and A20 boards are different, like their
respective pages.

The Android microSD card image for the A10-LIME board is this one:

The Android microSD card image for the A20-MICRO board is this one:
https://docs.google.com/file/d/0B-bAEPML8fwlUFd5OHVOaFJIRmc/edit?usp=sharing

Instructions on how to write the image might be found again at the wiki
article, for instance, for the A10 board take a look here:
https://www.olimex.com/wiki/A20-OLinuXino-MICRO#How_do_I_write_the_official_Android_image_to_a_micro_SD_card_for_my_A20_board.3F

Best regards,
Lub/OLIMEX

I'm not into testing for the moment though, so I let this aside for the moment.

For me, it worked smoothly at 24 frames (1080p24) or interlaced (1080i), but not at progressive 50 or 60fps.

Also, make sure you're using the latest sd image that olimex provided? I think the earlier ones didn't have hardware video decoding enabled...

How did you proceed ? You added 1080p24 in boot.src, or is that at the mplayer lvl you specified the framerate ?
Both ?

I ran the script at /root/change_display_a10_lime.sh to change the resolution to 1080p24.
