I question here. Was there ever idea to build a psram uext / pin header module? I mean something like these:

(Link is just an example for pseudo static rams, not an advertisement about any company.)
Problem with them is their package: vfbga. Not an easy thing to solder them with amateur equipment. Advantage will be even 16 megabytes of ram for microcontrollers. I nowhere found any real alternative.
