Title: Can you boot LIME from SATA disk
Post by: visionimpaired on January 29, 2014, 10:29:54 PM
Good Morning.
Is it possible for the LIME to be booted from a disk attached to the SATA connector.
If so, is there a user guide on how to set this up similar to the guide on how to create a bootable SD card on the blog?
Thanks.

There are threads in the forum like this one https://www.olimex.com/forum/index.php?topic=1659.msg7695#msg7695 (https://www.olimex.com/forum/index.php?topic=1659.msg7695#msg7695) where booting from SATA is explained (although you still need uSD to boot the board).
It is for A20-OLinuXino-MICRO but should work for A10-OLinuXino-LIME too.

Thanks for your answer, I should have mentioned, what I had search previously as I had see this post.

So I guess the question should have been more specific like:
Is it possible now or in the future to boot the board from and attached SATA without the need for the uSD card?

BTW, I really love the LIME, it has all the features I need for my project.

Thanks.

The CPU chip does not look at the SATA so you need to boot via some other supported thing (one if does look at).
You could boot via NAND, for example.

linux-sunxi.org lists what the boot rom does.
