Title: How to debian image v5 on NAND ?
Post by: Lloyd777 on January 30, 2014, 09:02:10 AM
Hello,

This topic is a continuation of this topic : https://www.olimex.com/forum/index.php?topic=2028.0

I am trying to install the last debian image available on flash with the tutorial posted in the link above.
But I think this tutorial was mader for a debian image v4. Firstly, in the debian image v5, /dev/nand* is invisible.

Someone, resolve this problems using this uImage :
http://olimex.wordpress.com/2013/11/05/building-the-ultimate-debian-sd-card-for-linux-with-kernel-3-4-for-a20-olinuxino-micro/

After that,I created the tree partitions (nanda, nandb, nandc) et put the bootloader in nanda and the rootfs in nandc like the tutorial said. But after reboot without SD card, the debian image isn't booting. Is it like an Android boot and we have to wait several minutes before it starts ?

I think it's a problem within the /dev/nanda which has not all the files neccessary to boot, but i'm not sure about that. Do you have any ideas ?

Thank you very much,
Regards

I am only running Android so can't help with image issue but do you gave a serial cable connected to the DEBUG port?

It's invaluable to see what the device is doing.

Well worth getting just the one cable if you don't. You can use it with all the boards during testing.

Thank you for your answer, I think it coulb be useful by DEBUG port you mean the SATA port ?
Is there a software needed, to read the debug logs ?

No, there is a port marked UART0 next the UEXT2 connector.

It's at TTL (3V3) levels so can't be connected direct to your PC. Olimex have a USB cable especially for this.

I have an idea but I don't know if it will work. PhoenixSuit it used to flash android image on NAND but it is possible to use PhoenixSuit to flash debian image on NAND ?
