Hi all

I'm working on a olinuxino board with jwischka R15 image... my system takes more than 2 minutes to boot... I wonder if it's normal and if other distros (debian, android etc) are faster.

also... during the boot process I see no log on the attached HDMI monitor... does this depends on the kernel configuration (loglevel or quiet cheat-codes) or it's related to the video interface (LCD vs HDMI) ?

thanks a lot for any hints

What do you see on the uart that everyone else uses for debug?

hello John

oh... sorry... I have not yet try attaching a serial device... I'll try this evening.

anyway... how long does your boot process takes ?

         best regards

Read dmesg (each line have timestamp, it's very easy to find stall period). You did not say which A13 board but my A13 WiFi can boot much longer if wireless connection is not established until DHCP timeout. Also use class 10 SD card.

Are you using a slow SD card? Mine boots in about 10 seconds.

Hi...

I finally got my serial cable and I'm now able to see where the system lost it's time... well... it's at the very end of the boot process... after mounting the swap and before showing the login prompt.

I don't think it's related to the sdcard... a sandisk ULTRA 8GB HC1

attached is my log

  best regards

uh... could it be that the delay is caused by the starts of xfce ?

as I don't need X, is there a way to disable it ?

I've try to comment all entries in /home/olinuxino/.vnc/xstartup but with no effects

just an update

looking at the following log, the problem seems related to init/login that is not propertly terminated.

It only starts XFCE in a VNC window. It shouldn't delay.

What happens if you hit enter at the 4 second mark? (during the two minute delay)

Hello jwischka

pressing return/enter does nothing, either when connected via serial port or via a wired keyboard

I really do not understand what's happen... the message: "init: tty1 main process (456) killed by TERM signal"

  is normal ?

       thanks

Hi...

I've formatted my sd-card and moving from R15 to R17 but with the same results
the system boots in about 5 seconds and then "sleep" for 2 minutes and then show the login.
I'll try again with a different size sd-card (the current one is 8GB)

Looks suspiciously like a network problem (i.e. timeout). Just out of curiosity, are you sure that the network values (MAC, IP, Mask, Nameserver) are correct for your network?

iw2lsi

Hi Lurch

maybe you are right... just some notes:

the problem comes with/without the usb to ethernet converter attached

when I boot R17 the first time, network is not up... normally I enable it manually using ifconfig/route

in R15 I add ifconfig/route commands in rc.local... but maybe they where executed too late in the boot process

where is the right place to set the IP address statically ?

       Giampaolo

iso9660

The only reason I got a general slowdown with the A13 Micro was when I compiled my own u-boot with the sources in https://github.com/linux-sunxi/u-boot-sunxi
Now I'm using the u-boot files from Hans de Goede's Fedora 18 spin.

Editing the /etc/network/interfaces file.

Try that on R17 (removing whatever you did in rc.local) and see if it boots faster.
