[SOLVED] Flickering 10 inch LCD

I've seen a few posts here and there about flickering LCD screens and there seems to be a number of causes for this already.
Here's another one to add to the list: brightness setting.
Our 10 inch LCD was performing fine during command-line-only sessions and during boot-time with the 2 penguins, it was still performing fine during the x windows logon process when the cursor appears, but the LCD starts flickering/jumping around as soon as the desktop itself was visually loaded.
Although the brightness setting was already set at the middle setting, turning it down just a little bit stabilized the LCD image.
