Title: Olimex ESP32-EVB Rev H DC power issue
Post by: jameslopp on April 25, 2024, 10:39:10 AM
Hello,
I am having an issue with our Rev H board not booting up when powered via the DC jack. If powered over USB, they work fine, and also previous versions work.

Any ideas to get the Rev H boards working properly, other than power them via USB?

How do you determine they are not booting?

If your tests are correct and powering over power jack doesn't work but powering over USB works then it is either power jack got worn out (it can get deformed from force, leading to bad contact with power supply) or the power circuit got damaged (this can happen due to many reasons).

Get your multimeter and open the schematic and start measuring from the bottom of the power jack and trace where the voltage from the external power supply disappears. It is usually D6 that gets burned in this scenario. Ensure your power supply is alright first (since if it is bad D6 protected your board from further damage), and if it is alright short circuit D6 (e.g. circumvent) and check if the board gets powered, if it does then the issue is indeed D6 and my advice is to replace it.
