Atmel is well known ARM manufacturer with very mature of ARM7 and ARM9 microcontrollers. Atmel was first to advertise sub $3 ARM7 microcontroller AT91SAM7S32. The SAM7 family is ARM7 microcontroller with internal Flash and SRAM and opens new opportunities for migration from 8-16-bit microcontrollers to the more powerful ARMs. SAM7 family offers very powerful peripherials and each peripherial is connected to DMA (PDC) which relief the core from IO operations.
